Power of polyphenols - gut health, prebiotics
October 31, 2024What prebiotics are feeding your microflora?
Hi. My name is Phil. I used to think all prebiotics are the same. I was wrong!
Polyphenols are a new class of prebiotics that have gained significant attention in the health community. "Regarding their role as a prebiotic substrate, the advantages of polyphenols are attributed to the ability of the intestinal microbiota to metabolize phenolic compounds." (7)
Prebiotics are not all the same. "Different prebiotics will stimulate the growth of different indigenous gut bacteria." (8)
Years ago, we asked our science team to generate a prebiotic that fed the good stuff and drove out the bad stuff. They combined very clinically proven polyphenol precision prebiotics from oranges, grapefruit, and apples w/ precision XOS prebiotics that correct underlying metabolic issues, feed key bacteria like F. prausnitzii and Akkermansia, drive out pathogens, drive up butyrate production, correct the gut barrier, decrease inflammation, and help with cholesterol.
In my family, we load up on vegetables and fruits daily, but it is very tough to get high doses of polyphenols from fruit and vegetables alone . We get them from this prebiotic now. Our children take it too.
Please notice the research is all done on daily consumption of polyphenols over time. For those of you looking for a "30-day change everything" approach to gut health (which I think is flawed by even the concept of fixing big issues in 30 days), polyphenols taken for only 30 days are not going to change your trajectory. Sorry. You need to be consistent with them over time. That's the data.
