It may not be gluten intolerance, it may be fructan intolerance - gut health, gluten, fructan, gas, bloating
October 23, 2023Whenever people say they have gluten intolerances I want to ask, "Are you are sure?"
Whenever people say they have gluten intolerances and dairy intolerances (both FODMAPs), I want to ask, "Are you sure you have a gluten intolerance issue?"
You may be wondering, "How do I know?"
Do you ever have excessive bloating, gas, or diarrhea within a few hours of eating garlic, onions, dates, watermelon, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, ripe bananas, prunes, or raisins? If you do then you likely have a fructan issue, not necessarily a gluten issue.
These are all gluten-free foods high in fructan.
The great thing is that by taking the right enzymes in the right amounts before or with foods that you are intolerant to you can still eat those foods. And you can clean up the gut to reduce the fermentation of carbs by certain bacteria in the colon and increase your enzyme production via a good gut health protocol.
BLOAT & GAS ENZYMES - FODMAP enzymes
GLUTEN COMFORT - gluten enzymes
If you don't have major gut issues but do have food intolerances that you want to fully address, comment "LEAKY GUT." That is the protocol we suggest for food intolerances.
If you have no clue what is going on but you have a mix of all kinds of issues, comment "QUIZ."
Note: You can for sure take the enzymes to help with your short-term needs while you are helping your gut get back to digesting foods on its own. OR you can do food avoidance while you build your gut back up and then introduce foods you are intolerant to slowly into your diet in step 3 of the leaky gut protocol.
